Opening on Friday, February 18th from 6p-11p is it's all about the heART, a group exhibition organized by Stephanie & Joe Ayala, benefiting The Helping Hearts Fund. A portion of the exhibition sales will be donated to the fund to continue their work in helping transplant survivors and their families. There will be other ways to donate to the fund through a silent auction, raffle, or you can donate directly with a cash or check.

Right now, artists Dante Rodriguez and Andy Curlowe are at the gallery putting together their show Dark Matters, Light Sources. Not only is putting together a show hard work, but imagine if you're also one of the artists in the show? More hard work!

About the show:
DARK MATTERS, LIGHT SOURCES is each artist’s personal reflections and responses to man’s relationship with nature. The landscape is a living entity that is in constant flux by its doing or our own. Curlowe addresses this dissonance by stating “with all that we subject our world to, our landscape is also evolving and changing….is nature making a counter path to our development?” In his dioramas and drawings he illustrates the struggle of man’s design onto nature. The hidden mysteries experienced in nature are explored in Rodriguez’s work. His use of animal, human and geometric hybrid forms in his paintings portray a peculiar bond filled with ambiguity and open ended narratives. There is a psychological resonance shared in the works by both artists that cast a shadow of uncertainty on the relationship between man and nature. Was this disharmony always present? Is it a modern day creation? Nevertheless, their imagery presents that it is not the natural order of things.

The Collectors Series: Collecting the Art of Northeast Ohio

The first of five lectures in Lakewood is Art's Collectors Series focuses on Contemporary Cleveland Artists and will be held at Wall Eye Gallery on Thursday, September 9th from 7:00-8:00pm.

Dave Desimone (Owner of the former Low Life Gallery, and curator of the traveling Lonesome No More exhibit) will discuss the works of 16 local emerging and established artists that have been making a name for themselves.

All lectures are open to the public and free to attend!

Our next show Clear Signs opens Friday, August 20th from 6:00-10:00pm. Organized by William Schwartz and Joe Ayala, Clear Signs features the art of seven artists, Jason Byers, Jeffry Chiplis, Jim Karpinski, Bill Radawec, William Schwartz, Robert Thurmer and Ibojka Toth.

from neon sculpture to abstract painting, to politically-charged, conceptual installations and prints - this show is... sure to dazzle the eyes and mind. Organizer and participant William Schwartz gave the artists no criteria beyond the show’s title of "Clear Signs." Says Schwartz, "I'm very excited to be showing with a few of my favorite artists, at my favorite new art spot in town. [From the editor: Wall Eye Gallery did not pay William to say that. (LOL!)] I can't wait to see what everyone brings to the table."

JOE AYALA: MMIV-MMX

In his first solo exhibition in 5 years, Joe has selected a diverse collection of paintings, drawings and prints produced from 2004 to 2010. With no particular theme to his body of work, he continuously experiments various styles and techniques through subjects of history, beauty, humor and death.

With DJ Cornflake spinning music through the night, Joe has selected the right works and music to create the coolest experience and a fun night for everyone.

Studio Envy

Running a gallery takes a lot of work. A lot. Seriously. A lot. But there are perks to this biz, and one of them would be visiting artists' studios!

In the process of putting together Undomesticated, Stephanie L. and I have been visiting a few studios. There is something to be said when visiting an artist's studio or home. First off, they are amazing! There is so much to look at and admire. And of course when you walk into an artist's space, there's not only her art but the art of many others. It's sacred in a way. Walking into a sacred space with living, breathing art. To look at a piece as it's being created is fascinating. And it's easy to let your eyes get lost in the myriad storage of colorful fabric, yarn, beads, and materials.

I'm very thankful to all of the Undomesticated artits Rebecca, Jennifer, Emily, Christy, Christine, Sara, Giorgianne, and Shannon. You have been wonderful to work with and I enjoyed the meetings, visits, and especially your enthusiasm and passion for your art. We are honored to show your work in our gallery and we look forward to many more visits...

In celebration of Women's History Month and National Craft Month, this exhibition shares the work of ten artists who knit, sew, weave, embroider, bead, and crochet. These crafts were long considered to e traditional, domestic, and "women's work" that many women were expected to learn. For generations these beautiful techniques were passed down with the main intent of taking care of family and filling a home. We knitted and sewed items to clothe our families. We wove, embroidered, and crocheted to fill our homes with intricacy and love. In Undomesticated, we honor this heritage through modern interpretations of necessity-driven set of skills as a means of artistic expression.

Wall Eye Gallery presents an exhibition dedicated to modern interpretations of the work of Spanish Baroque painter Diego Velazquez. Art history and contemporary local talent combine in this innovative homage to one of Spain’s great masters.

The human form has always captivated artists’ imagination as a source for storytelling or to express inner emotions and ideas that provide meaning or insight to their works of art. This collection of paintings, drawings, prints, and photographs display a strong emphasis on the human form or animal figure through exaggerated forms, bodily actions, or boldly delineated lines by the whim of the artist’s brushstrokes. Whether searching for personal meaning, documenting current state of affairs, or expressing everyday life, these artists share the recognition of the endless possibilities and potential
of the human figure.
